Q: What is Nanotechnology?
Nanotechnology is a science and technology development at the atomic, molecular or macromolecular levels, in the length scale of approximately 1- 100 nanometers, to develop new materials and processes by manipulating molecular and atomic particles. Nanotechnology enables the capacity to enhance the intrinsic filtration efficiency of any hydrophobic or hydrophilic filter media with nanoparticles made of simple, nontoxic metal oxides in nanocrystalline form.
Q: What is 2H Technology?
Emergency Filtration Product's trademark name for it's patented hydrophobic/hydrophilic filtration technology which was designed to efficiently manage moisture output and filter particulates even as particulates decrease in size, or when the filters are subjected to higher volumes airflow, increased challenge levels or use over prolonged periods of time.
Q: What is hydrophobic and hydrophilic filter media?
Hydrophilic filter media is designed to absorb and retain moisture and particulate from air without seriously compromising airflow efficiency. Hydrophobic filter media is commonly used in airway management and typically composed of synthetic fibers like polypropylene. Because the fibers are hydrophobic in nature they do not absorb moisture from airflow. Moisture and particulates accumulate on the fiber surfaces or pass through the filter. Each filter significantly enhances the other's level of efficiency as they act in concert to achieve benchmark levels of performance and protection.
Q: What is the filtration efficiency of the NanoMask?
Filtration efficiency is the measurement of a filters capacity to remove particulates from air as it flows through the filter. Filtration efficiency is stated as a percentage of efficiency and is affected by such factors as size of the particulates to be filtered, volume of air and duration of use. An N-95 rated mask, for example, is 95% efficient at removing particles with a median diameter of approximately 0.3 microns at a volume of 85 liters per minute. Independent laboratory testing validated 2H Technology to provide filtration efficiencies of 99.99% at 0.027 microns. Duration of use is a critical factor because virus and bacterium can infest the filter for extended periods of time. Bacteria can reproduce on their own while virus can survive for days before infecting a living host. Virus and bacterium can also move through filters over time resulting in an erosion of filtration efficiency and increase in associated risk factors.
Q: How often do you have to replace the filters?
The active life of the nano-particles is approximately 48 continuous hours. Emergency Filtration recommends replacement at that time. The nano-particles become activated by the moisture in your breath.
Q: What is the shelf life of the filter?
The shelf life is currently two years. Emergency Filtration will continue to adjust shelf life as they are able to test aged inventory for efficacy.
Q: Why does some of my filters have brown spots?
This is normal. Sometimes when the nano-particle treatment is applied, a heavy concentration collects in one area creating the brown spot.
Q: How do you disinfect the NanoMask?
* Remove the filter.
* Wash the frame in warm (43°C/110°F maximum) water with a mild detergent.
* Rinse the mask thoroughly in clean, warm (43°C/110°F maximum), preferably running water.
* If the detergent used does not contain a disinfecting agent immerse the mask for two minutes in a disinfectant water solution such as:
- Quaternary ammonia disinfectant (one packet per 2 gallons or per manufacturer's recommendation).
- Hypochlorite solution (50 ppm of chlorine) made by adding approximately 2 ml of laundry bleach
to 1 liter of water at 43°C/110°F.
- Aqueous solution of iodine (50 ppm of iodine) made by adding approximately 0.8 ml of tincture of iodine
(approximately 7% ammonium and potassium iodide, 45% alcohol, and 48% water) to 1 liter of water at
43°C/110°F.
- Other commercially available cleansers of equivalent disinfectant quality when used as directed.
* Rinse components thoroughly in clean, warm (43°C/110°F maximum), preferably running water. The importance of thorough rinsing cannot be overemphasized. Detergents or disinfectants that dry on the frame may result in dermatitis. In addition, some disinfectants may cause deterioration of rubber or corrosion of metal parts if not completely removed.
* Allow the respirator to air dry in a non-contaminated environment.
Q: Do you ship internationally? If so, what is the shipping cost?
Yes, we place International orders daily.
- Simply order on-line, and we will email you with the additional shipping charge.
- Only after you agree to the extra charge will we process your order.
Q: Do you have masks that will fit children?
Yes. Children NanoMasks are now available. Because children come in so many sizes, we cannot specify an age range.
